Quickbooks Workshop: This two part hands on workshop will provide an introduction to QuickBooks financial software for you to implement in your new farm business operation. Whether you are a computer whiz or proficient enough to only send an email, this workshop will benefit you. Monday July 10th will provide an overview on how to manage your finances and how to create Schedule F forms, which are necessary for farm businesses when applying for grants. The follow up class on July 17th will wrap up the overview and allow for Q&A where you can bring forward specific issues you encountered over the week while setting up your own QuickBooks reports at home.Monday July 10th & 17th

Organic Certification and Pricing

This workshop will delve into organic certification, how to get it and how to pay for it. Are you producing organically but cannot budget for the certification costs? Would you like to transition your new farm to organic practices with the goal of certification but are unsure how to do it? The NOFA team will talk about the in’s and out’s of these topics. We will also discuss how to price your organic products and talk to consumers about price differentials between organic and not organic local foods.

Value Added Production and Commercial Kitchens

Have you wondered about adding value to the products you grow or produce in order to reach more consumers and diversify your product offerings? We will hear from the Whittier Family of Whittier Farm in Sutton who produces value added goods and prepared meals in their kitchen to sell in their farm store and as caterers. The Whittier’s have diversified in part to insulate their farm income from seasonal ups and downs as well as to fill out the offerings in their farm store. Neil Rogers of the REC’s Incubator Kitchen will discuss the operations and uses of their facility and how you can get involved to process your own fruits and vegetables into value added products. Just as the harvest season ramps up, this workshop will come in handy to help you deal with your bumper crops!

Speakers: Rick LeBlanc, MDAR and Laura Tangerini of Tangerini Spring Street Farm, Millis

Your farm website and social media is a powerful tool that should be utilized and invested in to communicate with your customer base. Between Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, MailChimp, Wordpress, and others it may seem daunting or like a demanding chore. When done effectively, it can be impactful and spread the word of your business far and wide. Rick will discuss basic level management and tools to increase consumer awareness of your farm business. Laura is a self taught Facebook user who utilizes the social media platform to draw consumer attention to each aspect of her farm business. She will discuss how much time she chooses to allocate to updating social media and what types of outreach yield the best response.
