A coalition of farmers, buy local advocates and community leaders have developed a non-profit organization to help consumers find their local producers and provide educational programming to farms across Worcester County all with the goal of increasing the profitability of our regional producers.
Regional Buy Local Groups connect farmers to their surrounding communities and vice versa.Central Mass Grown’s efforts have helped generate consumer awareness and demand for locally grown food products while at the same time improved logistical access to these important food/product sources.
Our organization is focused on the mission to promote the purchase of local agricultural products and to foster education about the benefits to health, community, economy, and environment. This mission has many ancillary objectives and strategies and should not be diluted with broader goals of general economic development or too focused on narrower regions.
The purpose of Central Mass Grown is to engage in the following activities:
- To educate farmers, consumers, and the general public on issues about and related to farming;
- To support the advancement of knowledge and understanding of farms and farming and their benefits and relationship to the environmental, economic, nutritional and social well-being of persons within central Massachusetts and surrounding areas;
- To promote the sales and purchase of agricultural products grown in Central Massachusetts to local markets, restaurants, retailers, aggregators, distributors, general consumers and others; and
- To undertake such other activities as are consistent with the requirements of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1984, as amended, and regulations adopted thereto
